Digital psychology

Digital Psychology is a two-year research project focusing on digital mental health in Flemish mental health care.

Supported by

Onderwijs Vlaandere (PWO)

The project is based on the observation that digital applications are finding their way into practice, but that crucial building blocks are missing, such as well-researched tools, clear theoretical frameworks, reliable measuring instruments and supported policies. Within this research, technology, clinical practice and policy are explicitly linked to make digital care more sustainable, higher quality and better embedded.

Objective

The various forms of technology translate into four complementary themes:

  1. Digital applications
Evaluation of digital tools for practical use, including an AR exposure app for compulsive disorders, a digital support tool for sexologists and the content enhancement of onlinehulp-apps.be as a guide to high-quality online help.

  2. Artificial intelligence in mental health care
Development of accessible frameworks and instruments around AI, with a focus on use and attitudes in Flanders, a Flemish AI attitude screener and the exploration of conversational AI as support for students.

  3. Theory, methodology and tools
Refinement of a model for the sustainable integration of digital mental health into mainstream mental health care, supplemented with new measurement tools for stress (in a daily context) and technology acceptance.

  4. Policy and quality frameworks
Contributing to European and national initiatives on young people, social media, well-being at work, the profile of the digital navigator and the further substantiation of quality frameworks for digital care.
