Nele studied sociology at the University of Antwerp, where she obtained her PhD in 2012 from the Department of Political Science. Since then, she has worked as a researcher at the Expertise Centre for Budget and Financial Well-being, focusing on budget and debt counselling and the broader theme of financial well-being. She enjoys gaining knowledge and developing tools and methods that make a real difference in social work.

Since 2025, she has served as innovation manager, responsible for the valorisation, services, and communication of the expertise centre. In addition, she coordinates the research line Money and Behaviour and conducts her own research on budget and debt counselling and financial well-being.

In her free time, Nele loves concerts and festivals, enjoys spontaneous outings, and is an avid reader of detective stories and thrillers. She also fills crossword and sudoku puzzles with enthusiasm, contributes as a board member of Al-arm vzw, and cherishes dinners and parties with her dearest family and friends.
