Dr in sociology (University of Antwerp). Tim has been engaged in research on poverty and social policy, as well as the interaction between inequality and climate change, for nearly two decades.
Tim obtained a PhD in sociology from the University of Antwerp in 2012. His doctoral thesis addressed the topic of poverty and minimum income protection in the European Union. In 2005, Tim joined the Centre for Social Policy (the University of Antwerp) initially as a researcher, subsequently as a postdoc, and currently as a part-time research leader. From 2019 to 2021, he held the position of Senior Researcher at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the University of Oxford. Since September 2024, he has been employed on a part-time basis as a researcher at Cebud. Tim's work has encompassed the development of novel poverty indicators, the formulation of internationally comparable reference budgets, an investigation into the phenomenon of non-receipt of social benefits in Belgium, and an analysis of the relationship between income and greenhouse gas emissions among Belgian households.
In his leisure time, Tim serves as a director at Wijkgezondheidscentrum 't Spoor in Antwerp, is a member of the Climate Council of the City of Antwerp, and facilitates the "Just Transition" reading group at bookshop De Groene Waterman.
