Fascinated by the topic of loneliness and its management and prevention.

Leen Heylen holds a doctorate in Social Sciences, Sociology. Her doctorate dealt with the theme of loneliness among the elderly.

Within Mobilab & Care, she conducts practice-based research on the themes of loneliness, informal care and caring neighborhoods. Among other things, she conducted research into the risk factors for loneliness among informal caregivers and the elderly and the approach and prevention thereof.

She is currently working on several projects related to community-based care. She also gives lectures and training on loneliness and caring neighborhoods and teaches in the banaba ouderencoaching of the Thomas More college.
