Processing Technologies: From Raw Material to Valuable Product
Our laboratory is equipped with a broad and versatile range of tools for biomass processing. We have drying techniques, grinding and milling equipment, presses, and other processing and extraction technologies that enable us to efficiently handle various types of biomasses.
We primarily focus on converting residual or waste streams, insects and microalgae into new, valuable products. Thanks to our infrastructure, we can operate at both laboratory scale (grams and milliliters) and pilot scale (kilograms and liters). This allows us to support early-stage research as well as upscaling projects toward industrial application.

Advanced Separation Technologies
Obtaining a pure product is not always easy. Whether it involves a (bio)chemical process, a residual stream, or a mixture that needs upgrading, finding a smart way to separate the different substances is crucial. It is important to choose the right technique for each production step so that the entire process runs efficiently and cost-effectively.
Our facilities for separation and purification at laboratory and pilot scale include:
- Reactors (1, 3, 6, 20, and 50 liters) for upscaling organic and chemical syntheses and polymerization reactions
- Filtration, extraction, and distillation equipment (including a counter-current extractor, Nutsche filter, and rectification column)
- Customizable (vacuum) distillation solutions for optimal purity
