Work after Brain Injury

Returning to work after an acquired brain injury (ABI) is far from straightforward. This project focuses on supporting successful reintegration into employment.

We approach this through four main avenues:

  1. We identify the essential preconditions for both service providers (such as career counsellors, employers, healthcare professionals, and disability managers) and individuals with an ABI—whether in work or seeking employment—as well as their colleagues.
  2. We develop a practical guide containing meaningful methodologies and best practices for interdisciplinary collaboration among service providers across various European countries.
  3. We translate this guide into relevant policy recommendations and implementation strategies tailored to the Flemish support system.
  4. We offer service providers pathology-specific, bottom-up tools to assist people with an ABI in (re)entering and sustaining employment. In doing so, we increase the likelihood of long-term employment success for individuals with an ABI.

The European Social Fund has provided us with the means to develop this project concept.
With this financial support, we actively sought Flemish and transnational partners and established a learning network to support knowledge exchange.
