On Tuesday, 21 January 2025, Thomas More officially launched the HEROES Alliance on our campus in Geel. We are proud to be the first university of applied sciences in Flanders to take the lead in a European university alliance. This highlights our leading role in practice-oriented education, research, and innovation - three essential pillars for strengthening the resilience of people, businesses, and nature.
HEROES stands for Higher Education for Resilience-Oriented and Empowered Societies, while also referring to the English word heroes.
And that’s exactly what this project is all about: educating a new generation of European heroes - students, teachers, and professionals who boldly and creatively develop local, innovative solutions to global challenges.
Whether you're a student, lecturer, researcher or professional, these three programmes offer you international opportunities:
The heart of joint programmes where theory and practice seamlessly merge.
Students, lecturers, and local partners form international teams. Together, they tackle real-world challenges.
Focused upskilling of professionals.
Today, we are taking the first steps with HEROES, developing the tools we need to reach our ultimate goal.
In doing so, we are building a cross-border space for learning and innovation, with:
From healthcare innovation and extended reality for local industries to smart technologies for water management - by 2029, HEROES will be fully integrated into Thomas More.
- the HEROES slogan
The foundations of the innovative HEROES project have already been laid. This is only possible thanks to EU funding under the Erasmus+ call ‘Partnerships for Excellence – European Universities’ (ERASMUS-EDU-2024-EUR-UNIV).
We’ll keep you informed of all developments, so be sure to keep an eye on this site. See you soon!
