Sustainable Houses in an inclusive Neighbourhood (Shine)

Did you know that 32% of CO2 emissions in the Kempen come from households? This is partly due to outdated homes, poor insulation and inefficient techniques.

That is why we started the district renovation project SHINE together with IOK, Zonnige Kempen and Kamp C. Within this project we want to tackle the outdated housing stock and thus reduce CO2 emissions from residential buildings.

This is part of an international partnership with 14 Flemish, Dutch, French and British partners. Together we are working out a methodology to get the renovation dynamic going in our own region.

For our region, this means that we worked concretely on the following actions:

• District renovation of a social housing district
• Launch of the energy master project
• District renovation of private neighbourhoods
• Renovation of homes to BEN level

The local partners will inform and support citizens as much as possible when renovating their homes. We will do this through information evenings, energy scans, the deployment of volunteer energy masters and the organisation of local co-purchases.

The project receives European subsidies from the Interreg 2 Seas program.
