Astrid is a researcher (PhD) in language and reading didactics and has a passion for everything to do with early literacy and early reading. Since 2006, she has actively sought to bridge the gap between scientific research and educational practice.
Astrid Geudens (PhD) is a researcher in language and reading didactics at the People and Well-being Research Group. After studying Linguistics with a specialisation in Psycholinguistics at the University of Antwerp, she obtained a PhD through the Fund for Scientific Research on factors that strengthen technical reading skills of beginning readers. In 2006, she transferred to Thomas More, where she helped develop the research policy as research coordinator. From 2010 to 2015, she was director of Code, the expertise centre for development and learning that developed numerous projects, guidelines, publications and materials in the field of language didactics, multilingualism, language and learning disorders, ADHD and ASD. Her current research focuses in particular on early reading and dyslexia, effective building blocks for language pathways, the development of early literacy in preschoolers and reading didactics. From this expertise, she provides advice and refresher courses for educational policy, educational guidance services, teachers and support staff, and is a scientific advisor for methods for early childhood education and early reading.
