About SLP-IN

Origins and Evolution

Established in 1993, the Speech Language Pathology International Network (SLP-IN) originates from an Erasmus LLP Intensive Program. This Network is specifically geared towards Speech-Language Pathology departments, initially bringing together institutions from European countries. Since becoming self-sustaining in 2011, the Network has expanded to include non-European partners as well. Today, the SLP-IN consortium unites 20 SLP departments from 15 countries across 3 continents (Europe, Asia, and America).

Mission Statement

The Speech Language Pathology International Network (SLP-IN) aims to advance the profession of Speech Language Pathology (SLP) through extensive networking in education, research, and professional practice. The network benefits students and staff of partner institutions at an institutional level, as well as professionals within the broader community.

Key Objectives
  • Enhancing Mobility: Facilitating student and staff mobility across Europe and beyond, thereby fostering international exchange of expertise and best practices.
  • Driving Innovation: Promoting collaboration in research, education, and professional practice to generate and disseminate innovative knowledge.
  • Annual SLP Summer School: Organizing an annual SLP summer school (SLP-SS) hosted by one of the Network departments.
Organizational Structure

The SLP-IN is structured with a Coordinator responsible for daily management and financial oversight. The SLP-IN Steering Committee consists of representatives from 4 Network departments, with half rotating every 3 years. Additionally, the SLP-IN Board Meeting gathers one representative from each Network department.

Research Grant

Aligned with our mission to advance the field of Speech-Language Pathology through collaborative efforts in education, research, and professional practice, the SLP-IN offers annual maximum two collaborative research grants. These grants, each up to €1000, aim to foster research collaborations among SLP-IN partners.

  • Application Process: The deadline for applications is annually on November 1st. Applications must be submitted using the collaborative research application form. Late submissions will not be considered. Funding provided through this grant is intended for use within the subsequent calendar year.
  • Review and Acceptance: Each proposal will undergo review by at least two SLP-IN representatives. The Steering Committee will confirm the ranking and inform the project promoters. In cases where proposals receive tied scores, the final decision will be made by the Steering Committee.
  • Timeline and Reporting: A report detailing the outcomes of the collaborative project must be presented at the annual SLP-SS Board Meeting. For projects that receive funding to support the writing of research proposals or completion of research applications, a brief description of the research plan and timeline must be included.
