Modem is an independent expert network in innovative assistive technology that aims for maximum participation for everyone with a disability.

- Searches for the best solution for every question in the wide variety of low to high-tech tools
- Works with experts with years of experience
- Not involved in commercial activities
- Has a unique position in Flanders.
Goal
Modem wants to empower people with tools that make written, verbal and digital communication easier.
Relevance
Declaration on the rights of persons with disabilities:
“The States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to ensure that persons with disabilities can exercise the right to freedom of opinion and expression, including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas on an equal basis with others through any means of communication of their choice, …”
There are many communication tools that can support communication for persons with disabilities. However, this is a small but very diverse niche of aids, where knowledge, even among professionals, is limited. Through the expert network, advice, training and research, Modem ensures knowledge and expertise sharing on this topic.
Our role
Modem not only does knowledge and expertise sharing, but also works together with the colleagues of M&C on building new knowledge through research and development. The partners of the Modem network are actively involved in several research projects.
